Stories That Remember makes personalised stories for children, created by the grown-ups who know them best. Children's safety, dignity and privacy come first in how we design and run the service. Where there's a choice between a smoother experience and a safer one, we choose safer.
This page explains how we keep stories safe, what isn't allowed, what happens if someone misuses the service, and what to do if you're worried about a child.
Stories That Remember is for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account. Children don't sign up, log in, answer the questionnaire or create stories. A parent, carer or family member tells us about the child and receives the finished story, which they then read with the child.
We use several layers of protection, because no single check is perfect and AI can make mistakes.
You must not use Stories That Remember to create, or try to create, content that is:
Trying to get around our safety systems is also a breach of our Terms. Stories can still include everyday adventure, gentle peril and real family life, including different faiths, cultures and family set-ups, told with care.
Most flagged requests are innocent: a word taken the wrong way, or a real-life worry described in good faith. In those cases we simply hold the story back and may ask you to reword your request.
Where we have serious concerns, Section 6 of our Terms allows us to:
Decisions to close an account permanently, or to report someone to an authority, are always made by a person, never by an automated system alone. If you think we've got a decision wrong, you can ask us to review it.
Parents sometimes mention hard things happening in a child's life, to help the story reflect what they're going through. We understand this is offered with love, and in almost every case nothing more happens: the story simply handles it gently.
We don't monitor families, and Stories That Remember isn't a way to report concerns about a child. But if something shared with us suggests a child may be at serious risk of harm, our Designated Safeguarding Lead may seek advice or share information with the appropriate authorities, as any responsible organisation would.
Please read every story yourself before sharing it with a child. You know your child best, and a story that suits one child may not suit another. Our checks are there as well as your judgement, not instead of it.
Only create stories about children you have a genuine relationship with, and only send a printed keepsake to a child's home if you're their parent or carer, or you have their parent's permission.

This statement sits alongside our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. We review it at least once a year, and whenever the service changes in a way that affects children's safety.
